By far our largest water, Darwell Reservoir was formed in the early 1950s and covers some 156 acres (63.4 hectares) and just over 1 mile long! It is set in some of the most dramatic, unspoiled Sussex countryside with wild boar and deer roaming around, Ospreys and Buzzards overhead and superb specimens swimming in the water!
The water is a bit of an unknown. The true size of many of the reservoirs fish are still a mystery due to the vastness in size of the reservoir. What is known is that the water holds some huge predatory fish including pike to 30lb+, perch over 4lb and eels to 8lb+. The reservoirs carp are still a mystery. There have been many rumours of large carp but the largest 'reported' carp caught so far is a common carp that weighed in at 15lb. The water also boasts a great selection of match fish with shoals of roach reaching in excess of 2lb and many dace. The bream, chub and tench are still an unknown although the trout fisherman often reported catching large chub. The reservoir still holds the odd brown and rainbow trout left over from the last 50 years of trout fishing.
